So most everyone has recovered from Miami by now. It’s been a week and even the broke ravers have somehow made their way back home. You planned to hit all the best pool, check out the top Djs, and pickup some babes on the way, but somehow after a blur of happy hour mojitos you didn’t make it very far.
We didn’t see every single surprise set, or weren’t center stage at every headliner but we sure did go to some bomb parties. With big brands going all in this year, everyone was gunning for the most exposure and the best Miami experience. Here is our list of the top events that you missed.
10 years of Cadenza Records at the Delano –
The house revival has definitely hit America. There is no doubt that Luciano is a European groove legend, but his influence on the US was never more apparent than at the Cadenza WMC events. Hosting a few different nights over the week, their stop at the Delano was nothing short of legendary. Over the week we were a huge fan of the Delano for their daily stacked lineup and South beach but the line outside of Cadenza took the crown. At one point the fire marshall closed the door for ticket holders, VIPs, and anyone trying to gain access. Going late into the night, Luciano had an epic poolside groove into the Miami darkness.
We Are All Friends at the Raleigh
The hip producer crowd came in full force to that stacked label party. Essentially every fresh name in the electro world took the stage for this all day affair. With labels Boys Noize Recs, OWSLA, Bromance, Smog, Body High, Mad Decent, Fool’s Gold, and WeDidit it was a all star hangout partying behind the decks. With a tag team format, everyone had a great time. Check out some photos we shot at the party.
RedBull Guest House at the Dream Hotel
Hands down the gem of the conference was Red Bull’s streaming event at the Dream Hotel. The rooftop daytime events and early morning ‘breakfast’ were to spot to be. Invite only, this was the place for the electronic elite to hang. Not only were to top Djs there, rap stars such as Rick Ross and Pusha T came through to miss the crowds. Complete with a tattoo parlor, salon, and ice cream truck, the party was four days of the perfect Miami lifestyle. Check out the photos.
Hard Miami Pool Party at the Raleigh
Destructo can do no wrong and once again proved that Hard is the most fun event producer in the US. Poolside at the Raleigh, a stellar group of producers took the stage headed up by house legend Felix Da Housecat. The late night became a mix of super star Djs as team Owsla and more came to watch Felix run the show. With a great blend of all around talent, this was a sure stop on the Miami party calendar.
Ultra Music Festival in Downtown Miami
Of course, we had to add it. Though the crowds may not be for everyone, no one can deny the experience UMF offers. This year an all time lineup and the send off of Swedish House Mafia, made it one for the records books. Over two weeks, the Miami centerpiece set bar for events everywhere. Nowhere else have we seen the massive crowd assembled to see the Swedes off on their last performance. With a set made up of originals, classics, and rave anthems any intelligent dance fan can see what they did for dance music.
Spinnin Sessions at Nikki Beach
Though Nikki beach may not be the icon it once was, one of the biggest dance labels in the world sure brought the heat to the beach on Thursday of WMC. A wild crowd filled a festival atmosphere right on the sand for the Spinnin allstar to rock all day and night. Though it may not be Ultra main stage, the talent sure felt like is as progressive anthems bellowed out into the ocean for a truly wild party.
Life & Death at The Electric Pickle
Headed up by the duo Thugfucker, this dope house crew has solid grooves and fun fans. The Electric Pickle has been heralded as one of the best spot in Miami for grassroots dance fans and this event was no different. The crowd got hyphy for the Life & Death crew as rock hard house went late into the night. Look for more from these guys as the house revival comes in full swing.
So you came, you heard, you danced but needless to say Miami has ended for this year. As the start of festival season we can expect big things to happen before we meet again on the sands of South Beach. Daft Punk album, Tomorrowland in the US, and Bieber Djing, who know what will become of the dance music world by March next year. All we know is that Miami holds a special place in our hearts and we will no doubt be seen stumbling to the sand next Spring to see yet another South Beach sunrise.
